For ease in regional comparisons, we have divided the Strait into 12 different subareas. These are meant to provide the most straightforward comparison with both zooplankton and fisheries data, which are similarly averaged into a set of subareas. However, the zooplankton and fisheries areas are not identical. Thus we have used a third classification scheme here, which is meant to provide reasonable comparisons to both of these other schemes at the same time.
